M2DC partner Bielefeld University will present latest results from M2DC at the exhibition of the HiPEAC conference held in Stockholm, Sweden from January 23 to 25, 2017. The heterogeneous hyperscale server platform RECS is shown together with a new ARMv8 microserver board integrating 32 Cortex-A72 cores running at 2.1 GHz. Supporting up to 128 GByte SODIMM, multiple 10 Gbit/s Ethernet interfaces and multi socket capabilities, the ARMv8 microserver facilitates a wide range of applications, ranging from cloud computing to HPC.
Energy efficiency of the heterogeneous approach is highlighted by a live demo of an FPGA-based hardware accelerator for data mining based on unsupervised neural clustering algorithms. Utilizing Xilinx Virtex 7 FPGAs, a speedup of more than 50 is achieved for typical application scenarios, significantly boosting the energy efficiency of the approach.
