M2DC Consortium Workshop
April 25, 2016, 7:39 a.m.
Bielefeld, 12 and 13 of April, 2016
The members of the M2DC consortium met for the first design workshop at the Center of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) of Bielefeld University, to define the gathered requirements and their technical implications for the architectures of the project appliances. The effort was focused on the project’s main goal of achieving a scalable, efficient server architecture composed of heterogeneous micro-server computing resources and reconfigurable hardware by combining various architectures (x86, ARM, GPU, FPGA) that can be easily integrated in existing data centres.
M2DC is one of the latest in a series of acclaimed research projects in the field of HPC Cloud, building on foreground of successful EU FP7 projects such as FiPS (management of heterogeneity in a server infrastructure), Mont-Blanc (ARM-based HPC) and exchanging and integrating knowledge from running H2020 projects such as the ICT-2014-1 MIKELANGELO project (efficient virtualization stack for big data HPC).
